Introduction
socAdmin is a self-hosted web interface for MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB. These docs get you from install to a safe production setup.
socAdmin is a self-hosted database admin tool. You open it in a browser, sign in with your socAdmin account, enter the credentials of a database server, and manage its databases, tables, collections and records. One interface covers MySQL / MariaDB, PostgreSQL and MongoDB, and the whole thing ships as a single Go binary with the UI built in.
Two ways to run it
socAdmin comes in two forms. They run the same web app; they differ in who starts it and where.
| socAdmin Manager | Docker image | |
|---|---|---|
| For | Local development on your own machine | Servers, staging, production |
| What it is | A desktop app (like MAMP) that runs socAdmin for you | A container you add next to your databases |
| Database engines | Can install, start and stop MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB for you | Connects to databases you already run |
| Setup | Install the app, click Start | One docker run or a few lines of Compose |
- Working on your laptop? Start with the desktop app.
- Deploying for a team? Start with Docker, then read Production setup.
What you can do
- Browse and edit databases, tables, collections and records (full create, read, update, delete).
- Run queries in an editor for SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and MongoDB (JSON/BSON), with history.
- Inspect structure: columns, indexes, triggers, routines and views.
- Import and export as SQL, CSV or JSON.
- Give each person their own account, as an admin or read-only user.
How credentials work
Every user signs in to socAdmin with their own email and password, then enters their own database credentials. There is no shared pool of connections that everyone inherits.
Database credentials are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and are never written to logs. See the Security model for the full picture.
Supported engines
| Engine | Versions | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MySQL / MariaDB | MySQL 8, MariaDB | One connector, the server version is detected automatically |
| PostgreSQL | 16 is used in the examples | |
| MongoDB | 7 is used in the examples | The only NoSQL engine supported |
